Evaluation Q6

Evaluation: Q3

Audience and Stereotypes.
In movies there are many different stereotypes, the audience will look at the Mise-En-Scene and how the characters behave to assume how they will behave, for Example if the audience where asked to identify the things in a males bag and a female bag they will assume different things:
Male bag                                Female Bag
Papers from work                   Makeup
laptop                                     Healthy food
Phone                                     Tissue
Cigarettes                               Wipes
MP3

EVALUATION question 6 partly

Question 4&5

Media institutions
There are many different media institutions, that could distribute our product. However as we are independent film makers we will be looking for a more realistic company to distribute our work, we could also use things such as networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace.

This is one way we could distribute our Media as it is very useful, as it has many followers, Facebook has 600 million active followers so i believe that our product will be exposed to huge publicity. It will also allow us to get reviews back from viewers in the form of comments.

Youtube is another way to distribute our media as it also has many followers, it has 48.2 million viewers worldwide, so not only will our product be exposed to many consumers it will also be distributed to a wider range of audience.

This is an example of a student video that has been hugely successful due to the distribution using youtube. We can also use this as an example to distribute our Media, however we can also add a channel to help us distribute our media it will allow the viewers to see how we created our work and I think we will be able to communicate with our audience. We can also have our own film Blog where we can also tell of all the details, all the challenges we made in making our Film.

EVALUATION question 8

When we first filmed the preliminary we learnt how to do match cut's and different camera angles. We used Final Cut Pro and using it improved our editing skills. In our final film we didn't use the exact same program and instead we decided to use Reason and Adobe Audition. Filming the preliminary gave us a rough idea of how we could approach to things in the final film and what we could do different to have a better final movie. In the preliminary film we didn't really plan properly because of the short of time so we filmed the preliminary twice on two different plots . We changed our plot last minute so it made us have a better plan in our final film which we took our time in. Overall the preliminary didn't look bad and was good for a starter. Having a preliminary was very useful as it made us have a more professional look in the film and improve our weaknesses. Group work was done successfully but due to one of our group members absence we had to use someone from another group to help us out. Because our preliminary was based on a casual day we didn't really take the costumes seriously so we our costume wasn't really good for the final movie which is what we had to improve on the §most.

EVALUATION question 3

This is Rhea who is 22 years old. She works in H&M as a store manager. She works full time and spends most of her time working. She enjoys watching movies in her spare time and especially likes the subgenre thriller. Rhea lives with her boyfriend and because of the intense working she cannot spend alot of time with her family. She doesn't really go out so she stays home with her boyfriend watching DVD's as she prefer's to relax. Rhea is the perfect age group for our movie "I Found You" as it has a lot of tension in it and makes you jump. I believe she would enjoy our movie because it gives you goose bumps and is adventerous.

EVALUATION question 8

Since the preliminary task I think that it made us more familiar with using the equipment and filming properly as more experience was gained as with editing. We planned the preliminary briefly but ended up saying our ideas out loud and went with the most realistic one and ended up improvising, this was risky because our preliminary had no structure. Without a proper plan, producing it wasn’t easy however we still pulled through and it gave us tonnes of experience which really helped a lot on the final. We learnt how to take many match cut shots and different angles which was used in the film. We took a lot of shots to find the one which best fitted the scene and deleted the ones which we didn’t like. Filming the preliminary gave us a better understanding of the camera and tripod to get the best shots. Using final cut pro with the preliminary task gave us a better insight with the editing software. We started off with the easy edits then wanting to try some other edits which looked better which eventually got us to getting a grips with a bit of the more harder edits. This enabled us to get more creative which again helped us greatly with the final product as we began to feel more comfortable. We didn’t really to create a soundtrack for our preliminary because we decided the diegetic sound was best. On the other hand we did manage to use soundtrack pro to get an insight of what kind of music will go with our thriller opening; in the end we decided that the default presets weren’t really working for us so we used ‘reason 4.1’ which we felt gave us far better sound results than soundtrack pro. in general i think that i partially left the sound for the final thriller to another member of my group who is called Jabedul i think that i wasn't confident enough with the software and i will be addressing this in a2. Compared to the preliminary which basically had no plan i felt that we had improved because we planned the final thriller and added ideas afterwards which unlike before gave it more structure and more specific things ti work around with the final thriller.

EVALUATION question 3

Alan is your regular young adult, age 25 working part time in an electronic store; who enjoys the perks of being young and living life stress free. Currently buried under the books in his studies of accounts and finance, even he deserves a shopping break from time to time in his best preferred retail stores such as ‘Blue INC’. Alan is best described as a serious person who likes to get things done the quickest way possible... so his friends say... but his girlfriend and family get to see the more relaxed side of him of which they describe him to be casual and always having ‘a laugh’. Like millions of people, Alan also has a social life where he can keep in contact with everyone he knows through a social networking website known as ‘Facebook’... he likes to catch up with old friends from time whether it’s a coffee down the road or a day out to go see the latest film in the cinema with his girlfriend. Alan has a great passion for the thriller scene compared to the other genres because he has a great hunger for finding a film to make him get the chills or goose bumps... especially when he’s watching them with his girlfriend as he likes to feel like he can protect her. This how ‘I found you’ comes into his life by constantly building up tension and leaving him trying to put the pieces together by showing and not telling what is going to happen with sudden outbursts which make him jump, its these moments that he will stay with him. Whether the audience is young or old you can’t guarantee you won’t be shaken up as with Alan’s confidence that he was so sure it wouldn’t have any effect on him at all... but he was wrong.

EVALUATION question 4&5

This is a trailer for an independent film called ‘My Name is Jerry’. This film trailer has a total of 102,213 views on YouTube. The internet is used to launch this film trailer in to a wider audience because the internet is available to millions of people all over the world who have access to common websites such as YouTube and Facebook hence it is quick to get viewed by people all over the world and its virtually no cost what so ever to promote an independent low budget film.
I have followed a similar model myself by already getting my groups thriller trailer viewed by 142 students in a cinema along with all the media studies teachers. Also, i have uploaded my thriller trailer onto blogger which like a social network website and is viewable to all media studies students and teachers which could then make it on to YouTube. again the use of facebook could attract an audience as i could post my video on my wall and it would appear on their home screens, or i could get an audience by posting it on youtube and thriller film websites. i could also adertise my thriller opening in the local newspaper.

Evaluation: Representation question 2

Representation in our film is shown were there is a female character which is bad. There is normally a stereotype that men are mostly murderers. Our film is set in a graveyard and you can never see the characters face fully. This makes the film look scarier and fits to the sub-genre thriller. The setting of our movie which is a graveyard gives a feeling it's going to be horror. There is intertextuality in our and the movie SAW as you also can't see the face of the character.

Thriller fonts final

We decided not to use text from live type as we just used text from Final Cut Pro as it provided us with simpler text fonts which matched our thriller opening just right and also it was quicker for us to make and import within out thriller opening.

overall experience

So far this year I feel that I’ve gotten to know my class mates better especially the members within my group. I feel that It has made me more responsible because I was trusted with the college’s filming equipment which had to be taken home for use on our thriller opening in the week end. I feel that I have learnt a lot since the beginning of the year for example using software to make our thriller opening; overall I think that this year was fun as i got to know and work with the class more and more.

3 moments of how suspense was created in the stepfather

This is a thriller film which we watched as a class for the lesson. This film is about a man who ‘fishes’ out single mothers within a family and attempts to control the family but then ends up killing the family. We are shown how it is a lifestyle for the character because in the beginning he is shown leaving the house after there are dead bodies all over the house and also during the film we uncover the truth of how he seduces another family in to thinking he is someone else until he reveals his true personality and character.
The first moment of suspense is in the beginning of the film as he is getting ready and leaves the house but as he leaves there is a camera tilt which shows a dead body as he walks through towards the front door; and also to go with this effect the music is peaceful but suddenly ‘drops’ and deepens as the camera tilt effect takes place. As it is in the beginning in the film, this creates suspense to the audience because the audience don’t know what has happened yet and how all the blood and dead bodies appeared in places all over the house.
The second moment of suspense that caught my attention and made me jump was when the step father goes over to the old lady’s house to kill her but as the atmosphere seems pretty slow and not moving at all a black cat suddenly jumps in front of the screen. This went ‘hand in hand’ with the cat’s violent ‘meow’ and the way in which the music which again was slow then suddenly dropped. Before this happened as the step father was moving to through the old lady’s house, more suspense was created by the mirrors which was in many frames of this scene as you could see many angles of the main stepfather character and the close up as well as the over the shoulder shots added to the tension within the film.
The third moment of suspense which made me feel a little uneasy was when the stepfather character kills the woman by drowning her in the swimming pool. There was a case of the audience knowing more than the character in this scene as the audience got that  typical feeling ‘don’t go out there’ but the audience knew something was going to happen before it happened. There was an over the shoulder shot as she walks towards the umbrella then she hears a sound and turns around and sees him. The close zoom on his face showed the expression that he was really going to kill her and then the zoom on her face showed how helpless and frightened she was. The weather in this scene is crucially used in this scene to help convey suspense as she is being strangled the rain begins to intensify which could show his power against her.

Film production companies

The productions company for our thriller opening was ‘candi’ which stands for city and Islington college. This means that our group didn’t have to search for a production companies opening however we did some research about existing production companies for example ‘20th century fox television’.

Production Company

our production company was candi (city and islington college) so we didn't have to look for a different one to put it, but we did look at other production companies and looked at what 1 would be suitable for our thriller after a bit of research on them.

Overall experience

Overall so far this year i believe that i learnt quite a few things for example i learnt how to Use Final cut pro. Also i found this year fun as we got to make short clips, however i also found this year stressful as we had a big target to reach in terms of the amount of blogs we had to put up.

looking for fonts

we looked at many different fonts for out thriller title. we went on dafont.com to see what type of different thriller fonts we can get, in the end we went with a preset final cut font, but we manipulated it and added effects to it to make it different, which really gave a much better effect to the overall look and feel of the clip.
